Windows Vista on the iPhone!?

Windows will run soon on the iPhone using Citrix Receiver, a remote screen software that connects to a PC and gives you the illusion you are running Microsoft's operating systems, including copy and paste functionality. Why is this useful? It will give you the ability to run full Windows apps in your iPhone over the network. According to Citrix, you will have full Windows capability, including cut and paste inside Windows. And while this is not the first remote screen application available for the iPhone, it is the first one which is actually supported by a big company, which will make corporations happy. [Gizmodo]

This is actually very exciting news. There have been couple of different ways to access your PC from the iPhone already but Citrix is obviously the best. To put in simple words, this is the most featured & the most versatile solution to date.

The irony here is that you get Copy & Paste on your Apple branded iPhone through a Windows Platform, as much as fan boys might hate it, it is the reality, so suck it up & make the most out of your iPhone suckers ;) - Sarwat

First Live iPhone3G unlock, by Dev-Team!

This week’s DevTeam Funday features a live demo of yellowsn0w!

MuscleNerd will use Qik to broadcast a live video and audio stream (from an iPhone 2G) of an iPhone 3G being soft-unlocked with yellowsn0w. He’s in Florida for the holidays so there won’t actually be any snow in the live demo (although strangely enough if he were back home in Los Angeles he’d be very close to snow this week!).

Qik creates a chatroom for its videos but it may not be feasible to field questions live from the chatroom. So if you have a question that hasn’t already been answered in our previous blog posts, please tweet them in advance to Musclenerd.

We’re aiming to do the live demo in about 12 hours, or 3PM EST/9PM CET. The actual URL will be tweeted via MuscleNerd’s twitter account just as it starts. [Dev-Team]

After 5 months of sleepless nights & hard work, the iPhone Dev-Team was able to pull this off, i call it the "i3UNLOCK", Yes, the iPhone 3G has been finally unlocked!

Obviously it has been hardware unlocked before by several different means, including some serious hardware unlocks, but this is what everyone wants, the SOFTWARE UNLOCK. For now enjoy the unlock demo video till its released to the masses end of this month.. Hopefully. - Sarwat

Mobileme does SuperHero Tricks & Rescues a dudes iPhone

Once upon a time, a guy named Rob got his iPhone 3G stolen at the dry cleaners. Thankfully, he was subscribed to MobileMe, which at the end saved the day. Or so he says.

According to Rob, after getting his iPhone stolen he went to the Apple Store to buy a new one. He proceeded to set up it up with MobileMe, the service that allows mails, contacts, and all kinds of data to be synchronized with Apple's servers. The synchronized data is then merged into a database, and then pushed to all the devices set with the same MobileMe account.

This was the key to the case. A day later he noticed something weird in his new iPhone: There were contacts which never were there. He quickly realized what was happening: The dumb thief forgot to wipe out the cellphone, so Rob had the power to identify those contacts—after that, he called them, got the thieve contact information, and told the police, who apprehend the thieve and recovered the iPhone.

Too cool a story to be true? Maybe. Tell us your opinion in the comments. [eBay via TUAW via Gizmodo]

Don't u just love reading stories like this? I cant believe this happened, how unlucky was that thief! There are a number of things that has to all happen & work correctly for all this to work out. Heck, some people even have a hard time getting mobileme or services like mobile me working in the first place. Now this Victim gets 2 iPhones & probably his computer working with mobileme like a charm. For some weird reason i kinda feel pity for that real unlucky thief! really, wont u? - Sarwat

F.A.A. finally approves Virgin Galactic's Spaceport.. woohooo!

It becomes less and less a future fever dream every day: Spaceport America in Las Cruces, NM, Virgin Galactic's future home, has gotten FAA approval to begin construction.

The design has been set since September 2007, but now that an environmental impact assessment has been passed, construction can now begin. Branson is banking on the rich still paying for a suborbital flight in our current economic clime, and yeah, I probably believe him.

Virgin Galactic and its SpaceShipTwo/White Knight launch system will be the main attraction, but the spaceport's license for vertical and horizontal takeoffs can be used by any number of clients willing to lease some launchpad time. [Ars Technica via Gizmodo]

Although we still have a long way to go in the path of innovation, the line drawn between the future & present is blurring day by day. A civilian spaceport? Seriously?? Sweeeeeeet!! Although most people knew sooner or later this was bound to happen, but damn it feels good to know the legalities are done.

What Virgin Galactic needs to do next: Constructing the Spaceport & finishing up that beautiful spacecraft "SpaceShip Two" (which had more than a few successful flights already)

What do you need to do next: Only one thing, Are you ready?? --> Save $200,000 within 2 years for that Return Ticket to Space.. Simple right? i didn't think so too :/ - Sarwat

Toshiba making the SSD dream come true, now 512GB SSD's

256GB SSDs were a possibility in my mind as storage in a fantasy rig. But a 512GB 2.5-inch laptop drive is big enough to dream about from the depths of my storage fanboy heart-of-hearts. [Gizmodo]

Not all kinds of technology actually progresses by the same rate. SSD's or more specifically "Flash memory" has one of those monstrous exponential progression "at least on my terms". Few months ago 64GB was the maximum capacity for Laptop sized 2.5" SSDs you could get (or have the option to get, which doesn't mean u could afford it). Now, Toshiba ups the game, doubles the previous top place holder & releases this picture with a press release for our admiration.

Should be availble in stores Q2/Q3 next year, which still doesn't mean you could afford it, but at least the younger siblings 64GB, 128GB & 256GB would obviously be cheaper than the current astronomical prices of this age. - Sarwat

The Ophone Could have been the first iPhone killer!! "could have"..

What goes down easy with a gorgeous cellphone that'll probably never leave China's borders? Stately rocks, of course. The Android-powered "OPhone" is quite the sight to behold, and while the Lenovo logo may not look quite right to American eyes, we're sure you could learn to love it in time. We're also finding out a bit more about the unit's internals, as it will include a 5-megapixel camera (with Auto Focus and flash), a microSD card slot, English / Chinese input via virtual keyboard, a video recorder and Bluetooth 2.0. Check the read link for a few more angles, and just in case you're wondering, no touchscreens were harmed during the shoot. [Modmygphone via Engadget]

There have been soooo many iPhone like smartphones, pumped out by manufacturers throughout the last 18 months, but if one of them truely caught my eye it gotta be this beautiful Lenovo OPhone phone.

Its sleek, slim, very well designed & elegantly beautiful, & guess what? it packs in Android, yes dude Android! The only downside is availablitly. Lenovo stupidly decided to have this as an only China phone, No Europe No North America, only China.

I truly believe Lenovo is missing out big time by not releasing this worldwide, although they might have a different plan, we will have to wait & see. Check out Modmygphone for some more shots. Now, its time for me to go get some napkins to wipe out my drooling over this beauty!! - Sarwat

Blackberry Apps on Windows Mobile! Really??

Pictures are convincing, but a video, as it goes, seals the deal: Blackberry apps appear to be running on WinMo. But how? And more importantly, why?

It turns out that this is probably a leak of an official RIM project, called BlackBerry Application Suite. CrackBerry dug up a year-and-a-half-old presser from the company describing its intentions:

[RIM plans to] expand its support for Windows Mobile®-based devices with a new software application suite that will enable devices from third-party manufacturers to benefit from the popular BlackBerry® software applications and services.
[BerryReview via CrackBerry via Gizmodo]

Hmm.. is Blackberry losing market share to other smartphones? Well whats the next best thing to have? Yes you guessed it, a virtual Blackberry OS running on top of the aging Windows Mobile OS with all its bells and whistles.

And no, not just a theme, or a simple application, from what it seems it doesn't even take u to the core WM OS when u choose to run one of the built in apps like settings or dialer, its all Blackberry.

For starters as legit as it looks, i'm not even sure if its true, besides running a whole big application like this all the time might not be battery/performance friendly with most phones. But i gotta hand it out to blackberry, lots of people will end up installing it to give it a shot & when they get used to the new Blackberry UI sleek experience, u know it, their next purchase might as well be a Blackberry. A great way to build up market share again. So go ahead suckers, make sure to try it out IF it ever comes out. - Sarwat
